With increasing legislation and environmental demands, reliable measurements of wastewater
parameters are essential for the effective treatment of effluents to reduce the effects of
industry on the environment.
The simplest and most useful of these is pH, the measurement of acidity and alkalinity of the
solution. pH is one of the most common analytical measurements used in process control as many
chemical reactions rely upon the pH of a process being maintained at the correct value.
By using accurate pH measurement it is possible to tell if the effluent from a factory requires
treatment before it can be discharged within the required consent levels, minimising the
effects of the waste on the environment.
LTH pH instrumentation and sensors can be used to automate and improve the efficiency of a
process minimising waste and reducing costs. LTH can provide pH equipment for use in many
industries including metal finishing, biotechnology, municipal and industrial waste water.
LTH pH and Redox electrodes are available in many different configurations for open
tanks or pipe mounting. Self-cleaning and spray wash adapters can be fitted to reduce
maintenance in waste streams that may coat the electrode, with the LTH instrumentation
controlling the cleaning cycles.
Valve retraction systems that can operate reliably up to temperatures and pressures of 140°C
at 20 bar are also available.
Redox measurement is used in cooling tower, swimming pools and industrial applications where
Chlorine and Ozone are used, as well as controlling the addition of reagents to treat toxic
chemicals and render them harmless.
Typical applications for LTH pH and Redox instrumentation and sensors include:
- Waste water neutralisation
- Precipitation
- Reduction and oxidation of waste streams
- Cooling tower treatments
- Swimming pool treatments
- Concentration measurement of acids, alkalis and salt solution
- Metal finishing and pre-treatment
