With increasing legislation and environmental demands, reliable measurements of wastewater parameters are essential for the effective treatment of effluents to reduce the effects of industry on the environment.

The simplest and most useful of these is pH, the measurement of acidity and alkalinity of the solution. pH is one of the most common analytical measurements used in process control as many chemical reactions rely upon the pH of a process being maintained at the correct value.

By using accurate pH measurement it is possible to tell if the effluent from a factory requires treatment before it can be discharged within the required consent levels, minimising the effects of the waste on the environment.
